Telugu is India’s third most widely spoken language and ranks 16th worldwide. The great emperor Srikrishnadevaraya, himself a polyglot, once said “Desa bhashalandhu Telugu lessaa,” and described Telugu as the most versatile language he had ever encountered. The Telugu language is said to have been the sweetest of all (Indian) languages by Rabindranath Tagore. “Sundara Telunginil Pattisaithu,” which means “Sing in lovely Telugu,” has been sung by a popular Tamil poet Subramanya Bharathi. Several British citizens were interested in learning Telugu during their rule, one of which is CP.BROWN, who also has mastered poetry and was the first person to write the Telugu dictionary.

Following are the Telugu’s unique features

♦ “AVADHANAM” is well known for Telugu. It is a special theoretical literary game to test one’s profound knowledge of imagination and analytical ability in a language.

♦ Contrary to any other word, the poems in Telugu called “Padhyaalu,” follow certain special rules called “Chandassu” which makes them very rhyming. This is why many medieval poets from Tamil and Malayal have sought the literature from Telugu, and so, even today, many bhajans and songs are on telugu.ex in most of the Tamil temples: one of the most popular Thyagaraja keerthanas seen in Telugu temples is only in Telugu.

♦ In the 16th century Nicolo di Conti, a Venetian explorer, recognized the Telugu-Italian similarity, nearly all the words ending with vowels, and this is why he identified Telugu as the “Italian of the East”.
